    Roof top tent

    Hey guys

Looking at buying a roof top tent.
Have been looking at the roo systems and tigerz11 ones they seem good value for money just wondering on anyone's experiences and thoughts.

There have been several threads about the pros & cons of RTT's.
I was looking at getting one years ago. Even borrowed one for a trip.
I have ended up getting an old popup camper instead. ~1977 ACT.

Spent a bit of time doing it up. it gets dragged all over the high country, no problems. It takes me less time to put it up than a RTT. It has a good 3 way fridge that runs well when traveling, 2 double beds, stove, internal shower, etc. Roof doesnt leak, its been out in a couple of decent storms. Was in a bush camp area a few weeks ago when a storm when through at night, there was a disco with a RTT that didnt fair well, they ended up in their disco all night & retrieving everything the next morning.

As was explained in one of the threads, RTT's add weight up high to your jeep, not a good thing. Its very difficult to leave it any where, I can close/lock my popup, & lock it to a pole or tree & go serious wheeling for a day.

It has wheels that match the jeep & now has a couple of spare holders on the back, 4 jerry can holders that can be used as bins when not used for jerry cans.

I would not consider a RTT now. Use a tent or swag for an over-nighter, popup for anything longer.

So far (including purchase price) I have spent about $1500 plus my time on it.

If well set up they are reasonably stable but by the time you do that you might as well own a decent tent. Obviously you can't drive anywhere once set up which I would find really annoying. Can't go for a quick trip to get firewood etc. If it gets wet you then have to set it up at home to dry out. Weight up high and wind resistance is not great. A mate has a Chinese one and it is very comfortable and seems reasonably well made. Though for the same price you could buy a top of the range Australian canvas tent. Maybe these are things you can live with but not for me.
In my experience nothing compares to those 3m square tents with one pole in the middle or a good swag for ease of use, water resistance, wind resistance and value for money.

I probable should have added I want this for quick set up with bed and all set in one . I do have an oztent but then you still have to blow up the mattress etc
I am wanting this to do overnight trips and to try and get out more
We have a jet ski that we like to take along so that kind of puts the camper out of the question although I have always wanted one .

The roof rack on the camper takes a tinny, probably could take a jet ski if it didnt weigh too much.

Do it the other way around. Jet ski on the bottom with a frame over the top with a roof top tent or even a camper trailer type set up.

I have a dilemma, I saw the tigers11 rooftop tent and awning for like $945 in the 4wd action magazine, after looking at the TJM yulara rooftop yet, which they quoted me at $1575! If you have either could you please let me know how you rate it? Cheers!

So I got the Tigerz11 spam about thier rooftop tent sale. Tried to get details and had very poor customer service response. Decided to go with a purchase anyway and they have removed the "add to cart" function to the advertised item. Anyone else think this is dodgy and false advertising? Is...
