    Aftermarket rims/tyres

Afternoon legends, long time reader/scroller, first time poster. I'm wanting to go to 18" from 20" standard rims for a larger tyre profile on the 2014 WK2 Overland. I've searched to death on here and have seen some good posts, however none that really answer any questions. Basically clearance and offset issues? not too concerned about the pressure sensors as I know there's available aftermarket ones around. So my question I guess would be, has anyone done this, gone to 18's from 20's and been ok? steel or alloy's? my spare is an 18" so could I get four of them? (heavier I know)

Any insight from the 'coal face' from you guys in the know would be great.

    Cheers!

You will be fine going to the 20's. The cars that came with 20's still haventhe 18 as the spare. I've got 285/50/20 on mine, on SRT rims, great grip off road, sand, and on the road.
I had to replace a tpms recently, from memory, 50 bucks for 4 on eBay, just make sure you get the right ones for your year as they changed?
I now use one of my old 20" Overland rims with 285/50/20 on it for a spare, but have used the stock 18 from Mungerannie back to Adelaide with no Ill effects, the size difference is marginal and I aired the opposite tyre down to 30 psi.
    I drive over stuff!!!!

I would just swap the TPMS units onto the new rims, why add more expense, use alloy rims otherwise up for new wheel nuts as well....
Use this calculator and you will know for sure how big a tyre you can fit on an 18" rim but if you stay with a standard Jeep 18" rim/tyre your speedo should be on par, while I may go wider I would try to stay with the same profile to keep the circumference close to original to make speedo and other bits happy.

Fill in the blanks and this will show you https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/

      Standard 18" is 265 65R18.

I went from standard 20s to standard 18s and put eBay TPMS sensors in - absolutely no dramas on all fronts. Keep an eye on the forums, gumtree, and fb marketplace as you can often pick up the standard 18s cheaply. I got my four for $250.

Got new sensors as I wanted less hassle when swapping over, and the old ones were probably coming up due for battery replacement anyway. Just be careful if you're getting new sensors, as there are two different frequencies pre and post ~MY17.

I went 275/65/18, which the largest you can go with no or very minimal rubbing. In terms of speedo, the GCs typically read over from factory, so I've found the increased diameter means it only reads under by about 1.5% now.

          You won’t have any dramas.

20”s great for Sydney and the freeway.

18”s will be the best thing you ever do - way more practical and capable.

            I've got 18 x 9 ROH Vapor mags on my 2014, tyres are 285/60/18's.
The standard 18's that came off it I am going to sell.

I personally like the wider profile of the 285's...I am going to fit 285/65/18's shortly for a tad more ground clearance.

Current tyres do rub a little at full lock which is not a drama at all.

You can go in to the setup too with a JScan and alter the tyre diameter if the speedo is reading too far out.

              Cheers everyone!

Thanks everyone for your insights into this. I'll definitely go the 18's now as I know the stud pattern will fit and allow a slightly fatter profile than what the 20's give.
              Cheers!

Keep your eye on the market place thread on these forums. Standard 18's come up every now and then at a fairly cheap price.
