    Brake Calipers

I was working on the front calipers the other day and discovered they my be a bit stuffed. They actually worked when I was driving it but I can't for the life of me get the pistons out of the caliper housing. I've tried air and pulling it out by hand and the piston won't budge. I am considering taking it to a brake specialist to get rebuilt or bite the bullet and get new ones.

I thought I would toss it out to you guys to see what you thought. Another question I have is the brake bracket that bolts to the steering knuckle has a bolt with a weird star pattern. Is this some special grade of bolt? What is the purpose of the special head? Any knowledge here would be helpful.

    Cheers,
    Dan.

Bolt will be a Torques bit most likely a T45 others had a 7mm hex key

brake place should be able to guide you if they can be rebuilt

No it's not a torx head (nasty things they are).

The oustside of the head is a star shape. I didn't explain it properly. It's the 2 bolts that connect the anchor plate to the steering knuckle.

Bolts will be multi hex & a ordinary multi hex socket will fit. They are usually grade 8 hi tensile & are more resistant to rounding off.
To get piston out , reconect to brake hose & use brake fluid pressure to force out , use g-clamp to stop other side coming out & when its nearly out swap clamp to other side.Alternatively use grease nipple & pump grease in untill it pops out.
I used to be indecisive but now Im not so sure!!!
