    JK Wrangler Broken Valve Spring

    Hi Guys,

I am new to the jeep forum.
I bought a 2009 JK wrangler, less than a year ago. It was good condition and low k's.

However the other day, returning to my Jeep at the car parks after a couple of hours, starting the car it began to run very rough almost dying. Where it was driving perfect prior.

It has been diagnosed as a broken valve spring in cylinder 6.

I am just wondering if this is a common issue for others?
What way did you go to fix the issue, new engine or fix the cylinder head?
I live in south east melbourne, any recommendations of Jeep specialists who could fix this?

For a car of this age it seems very unlikely to happen so I thought I would check if its just my luck or something that others have experienced too?

    Thanks

Double Black Offroad in Moorabbin, USA4x4 in Mordialloc or Poly 4x4 in Huntingdale. We're spoilt for choice in SE Melb.

Is this your JK being discussed ?

Hi. I am looking at a 2009 Wrangler with a "broken valve spring". Any one had any experience with this. What are the chances that this is repairable with no other or minor damage to the piston and other components. Any advise appreciated. thanks Kim
It seemed like a good idea at the time........

Pretty sure it is an interference engine.
Doesn't make much difference though if you have dropped a valve due to a broken valve spring unless it has remained supported by the collets to prevent it from entering the piston space.
That is the first thing I would have checked.
If the collets are still in place you may be able to simply replace the spring with minimal dismantling of the engine. Otherwise. .....? !!!
