so I failed the rego inspection due to the tyres (was expected) .. now I have 2 weeks to get new tyres on.

there is not much in 245/75R17 around.. any suggestions on what I can get that will fit my stock rims in the next week?!

As AusTac mentioned before, going 265/70/17 will open your options up. It's a common size on lots of utes etc so you should find home readily available. They are the same rolling diameter as your stock 245/75/17, just 20mm wider. You'll have no rubbing issues, no change in final drive ratio and they're perfectly legal.

As to which tyre to get, that may now depend on availability and what price you want to pay rather than what tyre you really want.

Pirelli Scorpions ATR 265/70r17 are same diameter.
Not an aggressive pattern but works well on wet roads and ok on the sand which is where it ends up off road mostly these days. Not too stiff so gives an ok ride. Good on gravel roads. Haven't done any real mud but suspect they'd be only average at best.
          Good daily driver tyre.

Oy. I don't know much about tyre outlets in your area, but why don't you simply jump in your truck, or on your bike, taking the info you already have, and do a bit of shopping around.
The staff at places like Bob Jane and Tyrepower, which I have two favorite outlets, are not always "used car salesmen" types and can be very helpful and knowledgeable if you find the rigjt one.
I would be very surprised if you're troubles were not over in a couple of hours if you have thats type of access.

I was surprised after doing a bit of research and realising the 265/70R17 will fit well that Kmart Tyre & Auto, who did my rego inspection and said they only had $405 tyres for me, wouldn't have offered me some in this size to sell??

Bizarre.. the guy told me to shop around as this was all they had in my stock size.

thanks, I've asked for a few quotes from the bigger places and looked on tyresales etc. now.

I believe it was an older post from you that I took a lot of reference from when searching!! appreciated.

knowing the 265/75 R17 will be a decent fit has opened up a lot of options for me.

                Currently looking at:
                - Dunlop Grandtrek AT3G ($325)
                - Maxxis AT 980 ($280)
                - BFG AT K02 ($369)
                - Bridgestone M/T D674 ($349)

Monday will be a busy day of phoning around.

                cheers
