Back to original topic . I'm surprised at your experience with the Bridgestones. We've got them, just put my second set on after 65,000km, 30-35,000 of that towing 3.5T of van and at least 10,000 still on them but we were headed away on another 10,000km trip which included Birdsville and I didn't want to be out there on tyres that low.

Are you pumping them up to tow, especially rears? We run 42psi in rear with van on board, 40 in front (on bitumen that is, let them down to around 28 on dirt).

I did have them in the low 40's. They were on an NT Pajero - independent rear suspension which is known to chop tyres out when towing.

        Hi Pipeliner,

Meant to ask you, how do you find the Nitto Grappler G2s for towing your van? Are they quiet? Do you do any offroad with the 20 inch rims?

        Thanks,
        Sally

Certainly I haven't noticed any adverse tyre noise. Have towed on dirt roads but no real offroad stuff - a 30' long 3.5t caravan isn't really suitable for the rough stuff!

            Thanks for that.

Thought you might have done some offroad work without the van!

We have Cooper SRX tyres on our 20s at the moment - excellent tyre, but might look at A/T if we are planning more rough stuff in the future. Mind you, they are near new, so that will be about 6 years away, hopefully!

The Nitto's do look good though for the 20s.

            Cheers,
            Sally

We used to do a lot of offroad driving when we had a KJ, and I liked the Scorpions best of all the tyres I tried on that - hadn't come across Nitto at that stage.

On the negative side, the worst tyres for towing I ever had were Mickey Thompson's. Had a set on the KJ towing a camper trailer (around 1.5t) from Brisbane to Uluru and back, using mainly dirt roads like the Plenty Highway and the Oodnadatta and Strzlecki tracks and the rear set chipped and wore very badly.
