Exactly the same problem as my xj. the scan came up with a faulty oxygen sensor and throttle body sensor. they quoted me $900 on genuine parts, instead i went to a jeep car yard and got 2nd hand sensors. $90 for both and the car has never run better.

Our Jeep is 1997 Cherokee, we have a big misfire problem too!!
replaced crankshaft sensor, new manifold gasket, all fuel lines & injectors given the OK still chasing the problem, Chrysler Jeep (Adelaide) is one of the three places we have tried : still no luck

How often should a timing chain be replaced on xj's?And I know this is a difficult question to answer, but what would be the average life span of the 4.0lt xj engine?Recently test drove a 94 model with 244 000 km on the clock and it ran smoother than my 01 tj with 80 000 km on the clock. What the...?

i would guess it depends on how it was used, driven and maintained....years of towing and hard wheeling means extra wear and tear of course...like u said, no easy answer to that

have you tried the sensor in the dizzy?
I had my 96 limited backfiring and hissy fitting the other day..... did an oxy and a dizzy sensor and its all perfect and im a happy camper. Doubtful its the ecu even tho the 94's were a bitch of a year
