    t176 rebuild - help

ok, so long story short - the input shaft bearing needs replacing on my t176 (82 cj7) and ive decided to replace it myself. whilst ive never done anything like this before, all was going well until i went to a 'tranmission specialist' to remove the front bearing/shaft from the case. anyway, i left it with him (first mistake) and when i picked it up I noticed these burrs (pic) on the inside of the case, i.e inside the round hole the input shaft bearing is pressed into.

im so annoyed because this is the whole reason i wanted to do it myself, but because i dont know what im doing and ive never seen inside a tranny before, i dont know how bad this is. is it bad? clearly he has just gone to it with a screwdriver and hammer - christ! i could of done that!!! anyway its done so what now? is it just a matter of lightly sanding it down and it will be fine?

secondly, i know the input shaft bearing is the problem so i wasnt going to pull apart the main shaft and gears etc - but i noticed one of the synchros had a chipped/filed tooth. i was told however that this isnt a problem as synchros only need replacing when the rectangular cut outs on the inside are worn. is this correct, or should i just rebuild it? i do already have replacement parts.

hi if you already have the parts and have it in bits replace them easier than doing it next month if you don't allready have a workshop manual look for one and buy it ( i have one here but i'm across the ditch)its a haynes no 1046 super cheap might have them

        hi
looking at manual the bearing pushes in with circlip holding it in
try the bearing on its own CAREFULLY dont get it stuck if snug fit carefully remove burs with fine emery tape or sandpaper just remove the burs
I would be taking it back to the guy that stuffed it up in the first place and saying w t f happened !!!!!!!!!!
get yourself a bit of brass round bar 10 to 20mm dia 300 long to remove and put in your own bearings in the future have seen them in tool shops but they are expensive see you local engineering workshop if the have brass round bar

hope this make sense did when I typed it

lol - he vaguely recolected working on a transmission like that and said it must have been done when trying to get a puller on. (he had it friday, i called back monday) we all know thats bs - there wasnt a puller anywhere near this thing. anyway, ive been furious enough - i just need a remedy now. im sure its not a big prob, theres still most of the mating surface remaining, ill sand down the burrs, put it all back together, run it and see if something disintegrates. thanks for your help cj4a nz.

if anyone else has any experience to offer that would be great, cheers
