I have a gutter mounted Pioneer platform rack on my XJ. I did a 700km offroad trip in 2019 with the rack and by my calculations, it was approaching a 75kg loading (including the rack). I was previously advised by the reseller to keep monitoring the gutter bracket screws for looseness when off road. They never budged, even though the track was heavily corrugated in stretches, and/or stony. I have been using this rack since 2017 without trouble.
I came across the following Youtube videos yesterday. Thought I would post this thread up as there are often questions raised about platform roof racks, and mounting.
I never knew there was a difference between off road loading and blacktop loading. I just thought it was static, and dynamic - that's it.
I have seen a couple of threads (not sure if it is this forum) where people have lost bolts in their racks doing the Simmo, for example.
