    Jeep Diagnostics.

If anyone is interested and has a WJ/WG PETROL jeep and wants help on diagnostics, I have in front of me the following dealer manuals that I can reference for you to help you out:

    Chassis Diagnostics,
    Transmission Diagnostics,
    Powertrain Diagnostics
    Body Diagnostics

These manuals give you a step by step fault elimination for every jeep code.

Maybe over time we could have a sticky for the members over common codes and resolutions for those.

Those with diesel models sorry cant help you much.

    What about WH/WK's???

Anyway, I'd be interested in all of those for WG/WG's as most of the codes are the same.

What is the name of a good diagnostic tool for jeeps, one that can change it into economy controll, I think mine is in love with local petrol bowser.

            Mate,

Jeep diagnostic tools range from around $500.00 up to about $4000 for the Chrysler tools. Auto enginuity have a tool with a addon for jeeps/chrysler which does about 80% of the diagnostics that the dealer can do. The only thing it will not do is upgrades of the drivetrain.

What type of economy are you getting ? How long have you had the Jeep for ? What engine is it ? Is your check engine light on?

You cannot really reprogram the parameters to improve the economy but there are things you can do that will help. Give me more info please.

              I know of 2:

Superchips Flashpaq (looks outdated, it's the one I have): http://www.superchips.com/Store/Flashpaq.aspx

              Vivid (Superchips): http://www.superchips.com/Store/VIVID.aspx

              Diablosport: http://diablosportpower.com/

These are the trusted tuners. If you're looking at them purely for fuel economy, then I advise to get a diesel Jeep or a different vehicle LOL. The savings won't be that great, considering the amount of $$$ you have to fork out upfront for the tuner.

But if you want it for other things, such as tyre/speedo calibration, extra few horses, change of shift points (costs extra), etc. then fine.

I'm not sure how good are the new colour touch screen tuners from either Superchips or Diablosport but I can tell you a few things about the older ones SC or DS.

              Each have their good points:
              - SC has an advanced transmission tuning app (cost extra) where you can change the shift points yourself (DS has them inbuilt)
              - SC tunes are more suitable for offroad
              - DS gives better performance options, car more responsive, probably due to the inbuilt change in tranny shift points in each associated tune (my HEMI is faster almos half a second down the quarter mile)
              - DS would give you slightly better fuel economy (2-4L/100km depending on the way the car is driven, SC 1-3L/100km)
              - DS also offers updating of CALID flash files
              - DS gives you ability to customise each tune according to the mods and driving styles, e.g. offroad, onroad, etc.

Apart from the above, the rest of the features are pretty much the same. Please note that this info is related to the older monochrome display tuners and not the new Android powered tablets etc. I don't know anything about them. Also, the above results are from a WH with a 5.7L HEMI engine and 545RFE transmission.

PS. if you want to read all ECM info, read and clear codes, do quarter mile and other speed tests, you can't go past the Torque App on Android phone or tablet. A very cheap way of getting a lot of info and features via a nice app on your touchscreen phone. There's a thread on it: http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=113325

At the moment am getting 18L / 100 it use to be less before I changed battery, it's a grand Cherokee Laredo has 196,000 kilometers on it, and it is a 4.7 liter, until I repaired the broken wire in door and new battery, it was superb on fuel, isn't there a way to mix fuel for better economy ? Any help would be appreciated. And it is a wg model.
