WY Info

Guys, I need to identify this GC, I have the vin.....

The reAson is that the father in law was going to trade the GC in but the dealer is giving him the dick around.....

Firstly the dealer said the WY was a 99 model(purchased new in 99) then a couple of days later the dealer couldnt identify the GC as it has two front electric heated seats and he said thats not a GC, then the dealer piched up on the "build date" on the body of 1997 and now says its a 97 GC........

sounds bullshit to me so if any of u gyys out there can help with this vin....much appreciated

Vin:1J4GZB854WY104761

The GC was complienced in 6/99

not sure about the VIN no. and its meaning, since you asked, im curious so i sort of took the liberty to ask that question for you in the general forum

however, the build date and their excuses seems funny,

electric heated seats are STANDARD in the limited version in the grand cherokee, it was in my Limited ZG, and in my limited WJ... although they dont work anymore... and i think the heated seats are in some XJ as wel..

let clear up some model name first they can be a bit confusing, more so than the CJ's ..
92-98 GC are ZG in Aust,
99 is WJ in Aust,
and 2000+ are WG's...

my WJ was build in Aug 99, and it is complient as 99, and the oldest WJ build date i know of is Oct 98.

however, the ZJ was selling till the mid-99 as the WJ suppose to be released in july 99. so your dad's GC might be build in 97, but has a 99 complient plate, if im making sense.. but it seems unlikely to be 2 years apart.

so is your dad's GC looks like this no.1

or this? No.2

hope im helping you in some way..

cheers
bill
ps are you coming to jamboree? and i will go and check my VIN when there is sun light.

Hi,

Build date is not the same as compliance date.

Build date is when the factory built the Jeep and is found on a sticker on the lower inside of the passenger door ( RHD, or driver's door LHD), near the door seal on XJs, probably similar on GC.

Compliance date is when Jeep Australia stuck an ADR plate on before selling to you.

If it helps any my XJ has build date I think 11/97 and compliance 2/99. Give 12 weeks to ship from US, sit at Jeep for a few weeks then in dealers maybe up to 6 months, maybe sounds right for vehicles not at the top of the sales charts. All imports are several months behind on build to compliance times. In 1996 I waited for a special order holden built to my spec, built July 96 compliance Aug. Must annoy some people who get built dec comply Jan, find they own last years model when 1 day old.

Confusion reigns regards model year too. Jeep model year is from July to June and named after the following year. So Jeep are currently building 2003 models. My XJ built 11/97 is actually called a 98 model, bought Feb 99. Try that when ordering parts!

The VIN will give model year which is THE way to decide what model. Build date and compliance date are just usefull info. I will look up tonight to see if I can decode your VIN and work out the year model.

Things like elec seats etc can easily be offered or swapped in by dealer to help a sale. Eg I got a trip computer thrown in. etc etc or could have a free CD stacker when I placed order for the XJ. Options have nothing to do with model year.

you cleared some q's for me too dxj.

i still cant believe the build dates are 2 years from the complient date... it just looks bizzare... i always thought they would be 1year to 6 months MAX... but oh well..

so ron, so your dad has a ZG...
build 97, and 99 compliance i guess, now just let dxj find the VIN decoder, and along wiht your original purchase paper thingy, and rego paper, and jam them up the dealers ass, and .. what? trading in a JEEP GC??? for what??? it better be another jeep cos there's no other vehicle on the market that are worthy enough
