GME have had a few problems with hand-pieces too. Maybe it’s the stretching and fatigue of the wires of controller-type mics that causes noise and corrupts the data buses? But for a radio that’s only 3 months old, it’d be a bit unusual. The older analogue CBs would sound scratchy as the mic cable moved around, but digital radios might be a bit more susceptible to problems.
Just a thought before going down the warranty path - where’s the supply voltage for the radio being taken from? Maybe the radio is getting in-car computer generated ‘glitches’ through the DC input that might be causing a problem with the radio’s software?
It’s best to connect the radio directly to the battery (or other main voltage supply point) that doesn’t have a significant voltage drop when starting, or have ‘noise’ from the vehicle’s computer or other parts of the electrical system.
Just to rule those out, do you have a spare battery or 12v regulated supply that you could run the radio from for a while to see if the freezing up is related to the vehicle electrics or not?
