A tradie friend made this for me 2 years ago. It is a standard size keg, cut in two and hinged to make a spit. The legs are welded on. It has a wooden handle for easy opening. The gas burner nozzle is a simple stainless tube with gas jets drilled.
The spit comes as is (with NO gas bottle) and includes the spit roasting mechanism (battery operated) as shown. So it is ready to go, just hook up your gas bottle.
